Sean leads World Energy GH2’s operations and is involved in various initiatives and companies that are focused on sustainable business, enabling environmentally advanced solutions, and improving the Atlantic Canadian Blue Economy. Sean is dedicated to providing strategic direction, operational leadership and the entrepreneurial drive to ensure Project Nujio’qonik is a success that our region can be immensely proud of and can significantly benefit from.
Sean’s career started at an early age as a sea-going cadet in a family-owned marine business. Since that time, he has worked in various roles, including founding two start-up companies and managing the marine division of a large, privately owned corporation. He serves on a number of corporate boards, including multiple First Nations joint ventures, is a Director of the Atlantic Hydrogen Alliance, and is a member of the Marine Institute’s Industry Advisory Committee. Sean also supports the Ocean Startup Project, and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Western University.
While focused on his role as Managing Director and CEO of World Energy GH2, Sean continues to maintain strategic involvement in a company he co-founded, Horizon Maritime. With operations across Canada and in Norway, Horizon serves the unique challenges of our Canadian waters as well as harsh and deepwater environments around the globe. Horizon has been recognized with several industry awards, including two Employee Equity Achievement Awards from the Government of Canada which celebrate employers who are champions of employment equity.
Sean’s passion for fostering sustainable, diverse business activities and technologies has led him to devote time and resources toward advancing early-stage companies that are supporting the green transition, such as Graphite Innovation and Technologies – a marine coatings business that helps reduce emissions and enhance vessel performance – and Integrative Nanotech, a technology company that develops high-performance, cost-effective hydrogen sensors.
Supporting charitable and not-for-profit organizations such as the St. John’s YMCA and Young Adult Cancer Canada, plus other valued community-building initiatives, are high on Sean’s priority list.
Sean lives in St. John’s, NL, with his wife, Courtney, close to the World Energy GH2 and Horizon Maritime head offices.
