Justin Martin is a proud L’nu (Mi’kmaq) from Millbrook First Nation with over two decades of experience in Indigenous governance, fisheries management, and strategic relationship-building. As the Director of Indigenous Relations at JPOM Canada, Justin leads transformative engagement efforts, ensuring that Indigenous perspectives, rights, and economic interests are embedded in industry and government partnerships. His work focuses on fostering sustainable procurement strategies, increasing Indigenous participation in the aerospace and defense sectors, and strengthening business capacity within Indigenous communities.
In addition to his role at JPOM, Justin serves as the Fisheries Lead for the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs through the Kwilmu’kw Maw-klusuaqn – Mi’kmaq Rights Initiative. In this capacity, he leads the advancement of Mi’kmaq jurisdiction in fisheries, advocating for governance frameworks that balance traditional knowledge, treaty rights, and modern regulatory structures. His expertise in principled negotiations has helped secure meaningful arrangements that support Mi’kmaw self-determination and economic development.
With a background in Indigenous Law and Governance from Osgoode Hall Law School, combined with education in Aquatic Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, and Finance, Justin brings a diverse and solutions-driven approach to his work. His commitment to economic empowerment, sustainable resource stewardship, and Indigenous-led innovation continues to shape the future of Indigenous business and governance in Canada.
