    Jake Augustine is a member of the Mi’kmaq First Nation from Elsipogtog, New Brunswick’s largest First Nation community. With a decade of dedicated service, Jake has played a pivotal role in the development and management of McGraw Seafood, a key seafood processing plant based in Tracadie, NB. Rising through the ranks, he assumed the role of General Manager in 2019.

    Under his leadership, McGraw Seafood embarked on an ambitious $26 million construction project to establish a state-of-the-art snow crab processing facility. This venture not only enhanced the company’s capabilities but also provided significant economic benefits to the community, channeling millions of dollars into local development through direct and indirect contributions.

    Apart from his administrative prowess, Jake is renowned for his strategic role in the realm of Indigenous rights. As a negotiator for Elsipogtog, he was a key figure in the landmark negotiations with the Canadian government in 2019, which focused on protecting Indigenous fishing rights. His efforts in these discussions underscore his commitment to not only advancing his community’s economic interests but also protecting its sovereign rights and heritage.

    Jake received the King Charles III Coronation Medal in 2025 for his contributions to economic development and fisheries in the Acadian Peninsula.
