Tribal Chief Richard Ben
Richard Ben is a Member of the Makwa Sahgaiehcan Cree Nation located in northwestern Saskatchewan. Richard has 17 years in elected leadership positions at both the band and Tribal Council levels. He served as Band Councillor for two years and Chief of Makwa Sahgaiehcan for 10 years before moving on to serve as the Tribal Chief for the Meadow Lake Tribal Council where he is currently in his 5th year.
In his capacity as Tribal Chief, Richard is president of MLTC Resource Development Inc. and all associated partnership companies. In addition he has served on the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority board of directors for 14 years, the board of Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technology, and a provincial level and national level on variety of other boards of Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations. Tribal Chief Ben focuses on creation of employment, wealth and prosperity for the 9 nations of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council. He leads through a vision to create attractive workplaces for Indigenous people, diversify and grow MLTC business holdings, and continue to protect and build on the MLTC reputation of a well-managed and responsibly governed First Nations business.
Tribal Chief Ben’s educational background includes attending the police prep and police sciences courses and obtaining a certificate in Business Administration through the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technology. Chief Ben has also served his country with 3 years in the army reserve. The Chief is the loving father of 2 beautiful daughters Chloe & Graceful.
