DeeDee Austin is a 17-year-old Indigenous singer/songwriter from Fall River, NS, whose infectious energy, dynamic stage presence and authentic songwriting is creating fans across Atlantic Canada and beyond.
DeeDee took home two trophies from Nova Scotia Music Week in Sydney and brought the Awards Show audience to its feet with her moving “Buried Truth” ballad about residential school survivors. A new video of the song has just been released.
A prolific songwriter, she has recently produced two new singles ‘Sixteen’ followed by ‘Natural Born Original’ and is currently working on a full album release.
The busy young artist has been performing across the Maritimes and Ontario over the past year, including Stan Rogers Fest, TD Halifax Jazz Fest; The Guild, Charlottetown; Halifax Buskerfest; NS Mi’kmaw Summer Games in Cape Breton; Lunenburg Folk Harbour Fest, the North American Indigenous Games in Mississauga, as opener for April Wine in front of 8,000 fans at Alderney Landing, Nova Scotia and headlined the 2023 Canada Games Closing Ceremonies in Charlottetown.
